Eighteen Victoria Crosses have been awarded to members of the regiment over the past 150 years. 12 of the Victoria Crosses were awarded for bravery during the First World War.   Three members of the regiment have been awarded the George Cross, which ranks immediately after the Victoria Cross.

The men to whom these medals were awarded are listed below.   Details of each individual holder for the First World War, including the citation for the medal, and the details of the action in which the medal were won, are linked to each name. For the medal holders for other conflicts, please refer to the Green Howards Museum.

Information on the medal holders on this page, and linked pages, is taken from "Beyond Their Duty" by Roger Chapman.   This book was specially written to commemorate the only occasion on which all 18 Victoria Crosses won by members of the Green Howards regiment were together (April to October 2001, in the Green Howards Museum).   The book may be purchased from the Green Howards Museum Shop. Additional information on Tom Dresser, VC, has been provided by the Beck Isle Museum in Pickering.

Additional information on VC and GC medal holders may be obtained from Iain Stewart's web site (VC holders), or Marion Hebblethwaite's web site (GC holders)
