Until recently, the main War Memorial for Seaham (Co. Durham) was a Cenotaph located on Terrace Green. The Cenotaph carried no commemorative names.
Terrace Green is a small park, overlooking Seham Harbour.
Soon after the 100th Anniversary of the start of the First World War, a sculpture popularly known as "Tommy" was erected on Terrace Green, facing the Cenotaph. The sculpture is officially named 1101 (or Eleven-O-One), referring to the first minute of peace as the Armistice came into force at 11am on 11 November 1918.
Recently (ca. 2018) a unique War Memorial has been created on Terrace Green, Seaham. This memorial consists of a fence that overlooks the harbour. The fence has a number of "panels" in it, each one of which has 23 metallic commemorative poppies (see the photos above and below). Each poppy bears the name (including rank, number, regiment, and date of death) of a person associated with Seaham who lost their life in both of the Word Wars, and subsequent conflicts.

730 such poppies commemorated those who lost their lives in the First World War.

82 soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this memorial.

A spreadsheet can be downloaded which provides the names of all those commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War. No data was obtained for the Second World War and subsequent conflict commemorations.
