The Westfield United Reform Church is situated in Westfield Lane, Wyke, Bradford.
The First World War Memorial is a nowy headed cast bronze plaque mounted
on an oak backboard. The memorial is mounted on to the front of the pulpit.
The inscription is in relief below a wreath.
12 names of those who lost their lives in the First World War are commemorated
on the memorial.
The names of 2 soldiers of the Yorkshire Regiment appear on this memorial.
Private William Firth. 27479. 10th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.
Son of Abraham Firth and Sarah Taylor Firth, of 33, Garden Field, Wyke, Bradford,
Yorks. Killed 1 July 1916.
Born Bradford, Enlisted Bradford.
Commemorated on Pier and Face 3A & 3D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
(From the 1911 Census, William Firth was born in about 1890. He would have
been about 26 years old when killed. He does not appear to be related to Leonard
Firth, also on the memorial.)
Private John Stothers. 30664. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.
Killed 26 July 1917. Aged 25.
Born Pontefract, Enlisted Bradford, Resided Wyke.
Commemorated on Panel 33, YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL.
(From the 1911 Census, John Stothers lived with his family at Town Gate, Wyke.
He was 19 and a "Freighter".
On the memorial he is shown as John T Stothers, His father was John Thomas
Stothers.)
