The
First World War Roll of Honour in St. Mary's Church, Wombwell

A Roll of Honour for the men of Wombwell who lost their lives in the First World War is contained in a leather bound book in an oak display case.
311 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War.
2 soldiers who served in the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated in the memorial. Additionally, one of these soldiers worked in the Mitchell Main Colliery and is commemorated on the Roll of Honour for the colliery.
A window in the church is dedicated to 2nd Lieutenant Joseph Spencer Mitchell of the Ryal Flying Corps, killed in France on 5 October 1916. This window also commemorates the men of Mitchell Main Colliery who lost their lives in the First World War.

Killed 1 July 1916.
Born Wombwell (Yorks), Enlisted Barnsley, Resided Wombwell.
Commemorated on Pier and Face 3A & 3D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
Also commemorated on the Mitchell Main Colliery Roll
of Honour.
Private James Lee. 7051. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed
29 October 1914.
Born Brightside (Yorks), Enlisted Sheffield.
Buried BOULOGNE EASTERN CEMETERY.
