The Windhill First World War Memorial is located at Christ Church, Church Street, Windhill.
The memorial is a free standing Celtic style wheel cross on a tapering plinth, set in an arched recess supported by round coulns. Behind the cross are panels bearing the names of those commemorated in four columns.

180 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War.

5 men who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this memorial.


Private John Herbert Lee Hall, 42646. 8th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 29/1218 Northumberland Fus. Son of William and Ada Hall, of Windhill, Shipley, Yorks; husband of Mary Robinson (formerly Hall), of 21, Linden Avenue, Cottingham, Hull. Killed 20 September 1917. Aged 23.
Born Shipley (Yorks), Enlisted Shipley.
Buried HOOGE CRATER CEMETERY.

Private John George Hammell. 15156. 8th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs. Mary Broadhead, of 68, Aire St., Windhill, Shipley, Yorks. Killed 10 July 1916. Aged 21.
Born York, Enlisted Leeds, Resided Keighley.
Commemorated on Pier and Face 3A & 3D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.

Private Frederick William Harris, 21956. 1st Garrison Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 1411 Wets Yorks Regt. Son of Herbert and Matilda Harris, of Gloucester; husband of Annie Harris, of Windhill, Shipley, W. Yorks. Died 3 November 1918. Aged 42.
Born Cheltenham (Glos), Enlisted Bradford, Resided Windhill (Shipley - Yorks).
Commemorated on the KARACHI WAR MEMORIAL

Private John Henningham, 3/6606. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 25 September 1915.
Born Bradford, Enlisted Bradford, Resided Windhill.
Commemorated on Panels 44 and 45, LOOS MEMORIAL.

Private Herbert Whitehead. 27585. 8th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of W. and H. Whitefield, of Pitsford Hill, Wiveliscombe; husband of Ellen Whitefield, of Pitsford Hill. Killed 20 September 1916. Aged 23.
Born Windhill (Yorks), Enlisted Bradford, Resided Saltaire.
Buried SERRE ROAD CEMETERY No.2.
