Inside St. Luke's Church, Wallsend, is a magnificent East Window. The window portrays the Crucifixion, and was unveiled in 1922 as a memorial to the men of the parish who died on active service during the First World War.
Designed by the artist Wilhelmina Geddes, it has been widely lauded and described by Nikolaus Pevsner as of ‘quite exceptionally high quality’ and is regarded as one of her finest works.

Near to this Memorial Window is a brass plaque which is inscribed;-

"To the glory of God and in memory of
the following members of this Church and
Parishioners who fell in the Great War
1914-1918.
The East Window was erected and dedicated on 14th July 1922."

The names of 271 persons are commemorated on the plaque, shown by surnames and initials. A transcription of the names on the plaque is on the North East War Memorials Project website.

5 soldiers who served in the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this memorial.
