Memorials On Line website
The Wakefield War Memorial is a solid plain cenotaph on three-stepped base with a wreath and cross in relief on each face. The memorial is located in Coronation Gardens, off Bond Terrace.
There are no names actually commemorated on the cenotaph. However, a Roll
of Honour for both Word Wars and subsequent conflicts is now kept in Wakefield
Cathedral. This Roll of Honour was formerly kept in the Town Hall.
The Roll of Honour consists of three books of remembrance inside a large wooden
display case with a glass top.
956 names are commemorated in the Roll of Honour for the First World War. These names, with details of the regiments, dates of death etc. have been transcribed by Steve Slade and are presented on the website "Aspects of Wakefield's History".
