The First World War Memorial for Upwey (Dorset)

The First World War Memorial for Upwey (Dorset) is a brass plaque mounted on marble, and is located inside St. Laurence's Church. The memorial commemorates 17 names of those who lost their lives in the First World War. Beside the plaque is an illuminated copy of the first two verses of Laurence Binyon's "For the Fallen".

Nearby a marble plaque commemorates the names of 14 men who lost their lives in the Second World War.

The names on both memorials have been transcribed, together with brief biographical details, on the Roll of Honour website.

One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the First World War Memorial.

Private Frederick Charles Durrant. 29632. 13th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 30744 Notts & Derby Regt.. Son of Charlotte Ann Durrant, of Chapel Cottage, Upwey, Dorchester, Dorset, and the late Joseph Durrant. Killed 12 May 1917. Aged 24.
Born Wooton Glanville (Dorset), Enlisted Weymouth, Resided Upwey (Weymouth).
Buried BRAY MILITARY CEMETERY.
