The War Memorial for Throckley (Newcastle upon Tyne)

The Throckley War Memorial is a square-set column surmounted by a demi-sphere and urn. The column stands on a four-stepped base. Gilded names and inscription are carved on the sides of the column.
The memorial is located outside the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in the centre of Throckley. (Originally, Throckley was in the county of Northumberland, but after boundary changes in now in Newcastle upon Tyne.)
56 names are commemorated of those who lost their lives in the First World War. A transcription of the names is on the Imperial war Museum's Register of War Memorials website.
Amongst the names of those who died is that of 1 soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.
Private James Nixon. 5/14214. 11th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment.
Son of Thomas and Mary Nixon, of 11, Ash St., Throckley-on-Tyne. Died at home
1 June 1917. Aged 18.
Born North Walbottle, Enlisted Newcastle-on-Tyne, Resided Newburn.
Buried LEMINGTON CEETERY.
