The Tempsford War Memorial is situated at the corner of the Millenium Sanctuary, Church End, Church Street, Tempsford.

The memorial is a small cenotaph with a carved wreath at top of the main face. Incised inscriptions and names are on three faces. An incised explanatory tablet at base describes relocation and rededication of the memorial. All lettering is infilled with black enamel paint.

15 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World war, and 1 in the Second World War,

1 soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the memorial.


Private Albert Wootton. 235266. 12th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Died 27 March 1918.
Born Tempsford (Beds), Enlisted Biggleswade, Resided Tempsford.
Buried ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY.

(The CWGC records show his name as "Wooton", but the correct spelling is "Wootton". The SDGW record has him as "Wootton", and the 1911 Census shows Albert Wootton, aged 24, living in Mill Lane, Tempsford.)
