The Swan Hunter and Whigham Richardson War Memorial is on the outside wall of the Memorial Hall, Frank Street, Wallsend (North Tyneside).

The external memorial includes two figures, - a sailor on the left and a soldier on the right, and four bronze plaques with raided lettreing. the mmeorial is in a nniche at the side of the Memorial Hall.
A low relief at the top shows a battleship scene, and the relief at the centre shows a ship-building scene from Swan Hunter's yard.

The names of 216 persons are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War, and 23 in the Second World War. The names are shown by regiment, surnames and initials.

4 soldiers who served in the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this memorial.


Private Thomas Caldwell, 204411. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 26 December 1917.
Born Walker (Northumberland), Enlisted Newcastle.
Buried TYNE COT CEMETERY.

Private John Thomas McGee. 17488. 10th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of Margaret Canavan (formerly McGee), of 3, Atkinson Terrace, Wallsend-on-Tyne. Died 28 May 1916.
Born South Shields, Enlisted Wallsend.
Buried DARTMOOR CEMETERY.

Private Joseph O'Boyle. 17515. 10th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mary and John O'Boyle, of Co. Mayo, Ireland. Killed 18 October 1915. Aged 39.
Born Kilmore (Ballana - Co. Mayo), Enlisted Wallsend.
Buried LE TREPORT MILITARY CEMETERY.

Private James Smith. 17543. 10th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Died at home 15 March 1917.
Born Newcastle-on-Tyne, Enlisted Ailsbury (North Shields).
Buried TYNEMOUTH (PRESTON) CEMETERY.
(Although he above soldier may not the "J Smith" on the memorial, it is a reasonable assumption that he is the correct name.)
