George Esmond Haggie is listedby the CWGC and SDGW, and other records, as being a Private soldier. However, he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the 9th Battalion in June/July 1917.

Alexander Higgins Army Service Record survives. From this we can see that;-.
a)He was born in May 1896 (registered in South Shields). He was discharged on 29 September 1917 as being no longer physically fit (not clear if wounded, or not.).
b) He had enlisted in December 1915.
c) He was a telephone operator in civilian life.
