The Cenotaph for Southwick, Sunderland, is ocated at The Green,
Southwick.
The Cenotaph is a square pillar surmounted by a coping and set on four steps.
On one side of the pillar a large plaque is attached with a wreath and dates
of WW1 in relief. On another is a latin cross and the third WW2 dates. The
fourth plaque is left empty. There are no names commemorated on the Cenotaph.
However, a Roll of Honour to commemorate the dead of both World Wars and subsequent conflicts has been created by the Southwick Village Green Preservation Society. After a great deal of research this Roll of Honour was unveiled by the Green Bean Cafe, opposite the cenotaph, in November 2023.
The names of the dead from the First World War are listed in Peter Gibson's History of Southwick on Wear, and are shown on the website of the North East War Memorials Project website.
