The War Memorial for Starbeck (Harrogate)

The Starbeck War Memorial is located on Starbeck's High Street (The A69), outside the entrance to Starbeck's Primary Acadamy and opposite the Belmont House Care Home.
The Starbeck War Memorial is a cenotaph with bronze plaques at its front containing the dedication and commemorations. Above this is a bronze wreath. The memorial set on 2 stepped base in paved platform set apart from the road and with a metal fence on 3 sides.
100 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War. A transcription of these names is provided on the Imperial War Museum's Register of War Memorials website.
2 soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this memorial.
Private Henry Maddison. 265401. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.
Son of Henry and Mary L. Maddison, of 4, Bower Rd., Starbeck, Harrogate. Died
10 April 1918. Aged 20.
Born York, Enlisted Bridlington.
Commemorated on Panel 4, PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL.
Private George Henry Ward, 31796. 16th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment
transf. to (13678) 23rd Coy. Labour Corps. Died 11 February 1918.
Born Bishop Monkton (Yorks), Enlisted Harrogate, Resided Starbeck (Harrogate).
Buried WIMEREUX COMMUNAL CEMETERY.
