Four cottages built near the Colliery Institute, St. Helen Auckland,
constitute the local war memorial.
A commemorative panel, detailed as below, is attached to each of the pair
of cottages facing the main road (Maude Terrace).
One of the panels commemorates 20 soldiers of the Durham Light Infantry, -
one of whom was serving in the Yorkshire Regiment but had previously served
in the DLI.
The other panel commemorates 17 soldiers from regiments other than the DLI.
7 of these soldiers are incorrectly shown as having served in the East Yorkshire
Regiment, - 3 of whom were soldiers of the Yorkshire Regiment.

Regiment. Killed 8 July 1916.
Born Tottingham (Coundon, Durham), Enlisted Bishop Auckland, Resided St. Helens
(Bishop Auckland).
