The War Memorial in St. Peter's Church, Sowerby (Calderdale) was originally located in St George's Church, Sowerby. It and the Altar referred to were moved from St George's to St Peter's when the former was declared redundant in 1989. The memorial is an Altar and reredos with a dedicatory wooden board with cornice. The commemorations are carved inscriptions on the board. The Altar has a crown of glory with English rose and fleur-de-lys on it.

50 names are commemorated on the memorial. A transcription of the names is given on the Imperial War Museum's Register of War Memorials.

1 soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the memorial.


Private Arthur Wilson. 29005. 10th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs. Mary Ann Wilson, of 3, Quarry Hill, Sowerby Bridge, Yorks. Killed 29 October 1916. Aged 32.
Born Sowerby Bridge (Yorks), Enlisted Halifax, Resided Sowerby Bridge.
Buried CHOCQUES MILITARY CEMETERY.
