Richard Roberts (<richard.nsw@googlemail.com>) makes the
following comment on this soldier;-
"There was a John Purvis born in Jarrow who served with the ASC. He and
his family were still living in Jarrow in 1911 but by around 1920 his mother
had moved up the road and was domiciled in South Shields. Interestingly, John’s
address in Jarrow, his mother’s later address in South Shields and Joseph’s
family address in South Shields are all approximately the same distance from
St Simon’s Church - about a 30min walk. So no obvious guidance there
to pin point which one is the J Purvis on the memorial but having been born
in South Shields, my money is on it being Joseph! "
