The Fulwood War Memorial is located at the junction of Fulwood Rd and Canterbury Ave, Fulwood.

The memorial is a Wheel Cross of stone surmounted by a closed lantern. The lantern stands on a tapering octagonal shaft. The shaft surmounts a two-tiered plinth. The plinth bears the dedication in incised lettering. There is a three-stepped stone base. A pPlaque commemorating the names of those who lost their lives in the First World War set on a wrought iron fence behind the cross.

64 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War.

1 soldier who fought with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the memorial.

We are most grateful to Wayne Bywater (<waynetyke123@aol.com) for photographing the memorial.

Private John Matthews. 10575. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 22 August 1915.
Born Sheffield, Enlisted Sheffield.
Commemorated on Panels 55 to 58, HELLES MEMORIAL.

(The main possible link with John Matthews and the Fulwood War Memorial is the fact that his mother, Mrs Mary A Goodland, lived at 13 Adelphi Street, Eccleshall, in 1911. His mother had remarried, and Eccleshall is near to Fulwood.)
