The First and Second World War Memorials in the Brumby & Frodingham WM Social Club, Scunthorpe

Inside the concert hall to the right of the bar of Glenny's Bar (originally the Brumby and Frodingham Working Men's Social Club) is mounted a case containing two silver shields on a wood backing. These are embossed with the names of club members who died in the First War and Second World Wars. The memorials are stylised pewter shields mounted onto wooden backboards. A wreath hanging from a ribbon is depicted on the left hand side of the the shield, which has been cut out.

20 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War.

One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on this memorial.


Private Fred Briggs. 34776. 5th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly TR/5/14041 4th T R Battn. Son of George and Annie Briggs, of 12 Cottage Beck Rd., New Brumby, Lincolnshire. Killed 16 September 1918. Aged 19.
Born Broomby (Lincs), Enlisted Scunthorpe.
Buried CHAUNY COMMUNAL CEMETERY BRITISH EXTENSION..
