The First World War Memorial for Scotswood - 1

The Scotswood War Memorial is located in the North Wesr corner of St. Margaret's Churchyard, Scotswood.
The Memorial is a simple Cross of Celtic style, approx. 2m. high, resting on one step. The names are carried on three sides of the monument, in two columns on the main pedestal, and in three columns on the steps. Lettering is incised and blackened, using sans serif capitals throughout.
79 names of those who lost their lives in the First World War are commemorated on the memorial.
2 soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this memorial.
Private James Fenton. 17411. The Yorkshire Regiment.
Son of Henry & Mary Fenton Husband of Dora Fenton, of 10, Prospect Terrace,
Scotswood, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Died at home 27 April 1920. Aged 40.
Born Newcastle-on-Tyne, Resided Newcastle-on-Tyne.
Buried BENWELL(ST. JAMES) CHURCHYARD
(Additional information : Enlisted 12/9/1914. Discharged 19/6/1919 due to
sickness.)
Private Robert Weatherill. 45789. 8th Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Killed 19 October 1917.
Born Newcastle-on-Tyne, Enlisted Newcastle, Resided Scotswood.
