The War Memorial for Preston (Lancs) in the Harris Museum and Art Gallery

The Preston War Memorial consists of wall mounted marble tablets inscribed with the names of those men of Preston town who died in the First World War. Names are arranged by regiment, with the regiments inscribed in gold lettering.

2000-plus names are commemorated on this memorial, including 6 soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.

Private James Baines. 46734. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly M/286865 RASC. Son of James and Catherine Baines, of 14, Spencer St., Preston, Lancs. Killed 27 May 1918. Aged 19.
Born Preston (Lancs), Enlisted Preston.
Commemorated on the SOISSONS MEMORIAL.

Private James Dagger. 38802. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 6 November 1918.
Born Preston (Lancs), Enlisted Preston.
Buried BETTRECHIES COMMUNAL CEMETERY.

Private Carl Gus William Joseph Eilingsfield. 205082. 2nd/5th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, formerly 9852 the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Frank and Mary Eilingsfield, of 27, Allan St., Moor Lane, Preston. Born at Westminster, London. Killed 9 April 1918. Aged 21.
Born London, Enlisted Preston (Lancs).
Buried VIEILLE-CHAPELLE NEW MILITARY CEMETERY, LACOUTURE.

Private James Arthur Hansford, 38759. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 2 April 1917.
Born Macclesfield (Ches), Enlisted Preston.
Buried HENIN COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION.

Corporal Richard Rogerson. 12551. 10th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of James Edward Rogerson, of 39; Broughton St., Preston, Lancs, and the late Elizabeth Rogerson. Killed 26 September 1915. Aged 31.
Born Thornton-le-Fyld (Blackpool), Enlisted Middlesbrough, Resided Preston.
Commemorate don Panel 44 & 45, LOOS MEMORIAL.

Private John Walker. 35380. 5th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 3/45469 74th T R Battn. Killed 11 August 1918.
Born Preston (Lancs), Enlisted Preston.
Buried GRAND-SERAUCOURT BRITISH CEMETERY.
