The War Memorial inside Pickering's Primitive Methodist Church

Pickering's Primitive Methodist church is located on Petter Hill, almost opposite the Beck Isle Museum. The War Memorial inside this church is a brass plaque, located on the right hand wall in the main body of the church.
The brass plaque is inscribed;-
"IN SACRED MEMORY OF THE UNDERMENTIONED MEMBERS OF THIS CONGREGATION
WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM DURING THE GREAT WAR. 1914 -
1918. "
26 names are commemorated for those who lost their lives in the First World
War, and 5 names are commemorated for those who lost their lives in the Second
World War.
10 Soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are amongst the names commemorated.
Notes :
1 Private J W Hunter is shown as having served with the Yorkshire
Regiment. He served with the 7th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment.
2 The Battalions served in by the Yorkshire Regiment soldiers
are not neccessarily as shown on the memorial.

Private Robert William Eden, 1632. 5th Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Son of R. and E. Eden, of Pickering, Yorks. Killed 11 February 1916.
Born Malton, Enlisted Malton, Resided Pickering.
Buried POPERINGHE NEW MILITARY CEMETERY.
Private Fred Ellerby, 205483. 5th Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Husband of F. M. Ellerby, of 27, Eastgate, Pickering, Yorks. Killed
18 May 1918. Aged 27.
Born Pickering, Enlisted Malton, Resided Pickering.
Buried TOURGEVILLE MILITARY CEMETERY.
Private Richard Robinson Fletcher, 5742. 9th Battalion
Highland Light Infantry, formerly 26769 Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late
William and Fanny Fletcher, of Pickering, Yorkshire. Died at home 19 October
1916. Aged 36.
Born Pickering (Yorks), Enlisted Pickering.
Buried COLCHESTER CEMETERY.
Private Thomas Frank, 7787. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Killed 1 July 1916.
Born Pickering, Enlisted Pickering.
Buried DANTZIG ALLEY BRITISH CEMETERY, MAMETZ.
Private William Harper, 1472. 5th Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Killed 15 September 1916.
Born Pickering, Enlisted Pickering.
Buried ADANAC MILITARY CEMETERY, MIRAUMONT.

Regiment. Killed 10 October 1918.

Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 29 March 1916.

Private John Pearson, 20725. 7th Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Killed 10 July 1916.
Born Pickering, Enlisted Malton, Resided Pickering.
Buried BOULOGNE EASTERN CEMETERY.
Private William Allanson Poole, 20571. 5th Battalion
Yorkshire Regiment. Son of John and Jane Poole, of Eastgate, Pickering, Yorks.
Killed 23 April 1917. Aged 22.
Born Pickering, Enlisted Malton, Resided Pickering.
Commemorated Bay 5, ARRAS MEMORIAL.
Private Thomas Herbert Sellars, 11025. 7th Battalion
Yorkshire Regiment. Native of Pickering, Yorks. Killed 17 February 1917. Aged
25.
Born Pickering, Enlisted Richmond, Resided Skelton (Yorks).
Buried GROVE TOWN CEMETERY, MEAULTE.
