The First World War Memorial in in the Church of St. John the Baptist, Owlerton (Sheffield), is an oak board arranged with three panels. The names commemorated are painted in black upper case, arranged by regiments served in.

251 names of those who died in the First World War are commemorated. A transcription is provided on the Imperial War Museum's Register of War Memorials website. Unfortunately, there appear to be a number of inaccuracies, - incorrect regiments served in, incorrect rank, and in at least one case the person survived the war.

3 soldiers who served in the Yorkshire Regiment are amongst those commemorated.

Private Frank Ashforth. 15858. 13th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs. E. Ashforth, of 42, Burton St., Hillsborough, Sheffield. Killed 22 March 1918.
Born Hillsborough (Sheffield), Enlisted Sheffield.
Commemorated on Bay 5, ARRAS MEMORIAL.

Private John William Downs. 3/8841. 10th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of Lily Hester (formerly Downs), of 2/10, St. Thomas St., Sheffield. Killed 26 September 1915.
Born Nottingham, Enlisted Sheffield.
Commemorated on Panel 44 and 45, LOOS MEMORIAL.

Private Walter Wells, 7823. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late George and Betsy Wells; husband of Annie Elizabeth Hibberd (formerly Wells), of 597, Market St., Whitworth, Rochdale. Killed on 11 March 1915. Aged 35.
Born Sheffield, Enlisted Sheffield, Resided Owlerton.
Commemorated on Panel 12, LE TOURET MEMORIAL.

(Serjeant Edward Thomas Melville of Millsborough, Sheffield, served in the Durham Light Infantry (service No 49973) and survived the war.)
