The Ossett War Memorial has a life sized bronze figure of a soldier wearing 1902 Pattern Service Dress and 1908 Pattern Webbing. The sculpture stands on a marbble pedestal.
The pedestal stands on a wide rusticated plinth, on which wreaths and memorial tokens may be placed.
Around the base of the memorial are commemorative plaques.
These plaques are relatively recent additions (post 2018).

315 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War, and 84 in the Second World War.

8 soldiers who served in the Yorkshire Regiment are amongst those commemorated on the Ossett War Memorial.


Private John William Asquith. 28770. 7th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 12 May 1917.
Born Ossett (Yorks), Enlisted Ossett.
Commemorated on Bay 5, ARRAS MEMORIAL.

Private Albert Cudworth, 32030. 16th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment transferred to (12718) 22 Coy Labour Corps, formerly 48716 Notts & Derby Regt. Son of William and Elizabeth Cudworth, of Dewsbury Rd., Ossett, Yorks. Killed 25 September 1917. Aged 20.
Born Ossett (Yorks), Enlisted Ossett (Yorks).
Buried WIELTJE FARM CEMETERY.

Private William Dews. 13098. 7th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of William and Elizabeth Dews, of 50, Lovaine Place, Jesmond, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Native of Ossett, Yorks. Killed 22 December 1917. Aged 23.
Born Wakefield (Yorks), Enlisted Durham.
Buried RUYAULCOURT MILITARY CEMETERY.

Lance Corporal George Metcalfe, 10703. 6th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 7 August 1915.
Born Askew (Bedale, Yorks), Enlisted Richmond (Yorks), Resided Flushdyke (Ossett).
Commemorated on Panels 55 to 58, HELLES MEMORIAL.

Private Harry Pickersgill. 240464. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 8 October 1918.
Born Ossett, Enlisted Scarborough.
Commemorated on the MALBORK MEMORIAL.

Private Arthur Sheard. TR/5/14628. 11th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, attached to 4th Battalion T R. Son of Charles Henry and Mary Elizabeth Sheard, of Ossett. Died at home 4 August 1917. Aged 18.

Private John Joseph Stubley. 10910. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 7 August 1915.
Born Dewsbury, Enlisted Leeds, Resided Ossett (Yorks).
Commemorated on Panels 55 to 58, HELLES MEMORIAL.

Private Wilfred Wainwright, 4050. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Brother of Benjamin Wainwright, of 65, Springstone Avenue, Ossett, Yorks. Killed 7 October 1916.
