The First World War Memorial in Holy Trinity Church, Ossett (Wakefield)

Two memorial plaques can be found in the Sanctuary of Holy Trinity Church
Ossett.
To the left of the doorway a plaque commemorates those from Holy Trinity Church
who lost their lives in the two World Wars, whilst to the right are plaques
from St. Mary's Church, Gawthorpe following its closure.
105 names are commemorated on the Holy Trinity Church plaque as having lost their lives in the First World War, and 21 in the Second World War.
Two soldiers who served in the Yorkshire Regiment are amongst those commemorated on the Holy Trinity Church plaque.
Lance Corporal George Metcalfe, 10703. 6th Battalion the Yorkshire
Regiment. Killed 7 August 1915.
Born Askew (Bedale, Yorks), Enlisted Richmond (Yorks), Resided Flushdyke (Ossett).
Commemorated on Panels 55 to 58, HELLES MEMORIAL.
Private Arthur Sheard. TR/5/14628. 11th Battalion the Yorkshire
Regiment, attached to 4th Battalion T R. Son of Charles Henry and Mary Elizabeth
Sheard, of Ossett. Died at home 4 August 1917. Aged
18.
Enlisted Ossett (Yorks).
Buried OSSETT (HOLY TRINITY) CHURCHYARD.
