The First World War Memorial for Old Hunslet Carr School
Photo : Mr Saunders from the Imperial
War Museum War Memorial Register
Hunslet Carr School, Leeds, was the first school in Leeds to be opened (in 1872) after the 1870 Education Act. Although there is currently a Hunslet Carr Primary School, the Old Hunslet Carr School would appear to have closed in about 1972.
The First World War Memorial for Old Hunslet Carr School is a varnished wall-mounted wooden board with pitched top and dedication at the top surrounded by a gilded wreath. Names on inset board with wavy edge. The names and date inscription are in white.
The memorial was located in Hunslet Carr Primary School, Woodhouse Hill Rd, Hunslet, Leeds. Unfortunately, though the memorial has been lost and survives only as the above photo.
1 soldier of the Yorkshire Regiment is amongst the 57 names commemorated on the memorial itself.
