The War Memorial for Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn is a Cenotaph located in a small memorial green enclosure on the Memorial Green at the junction of A483 (New Rd) and Shortbridge St, Newtown, Montgomeryshire, Powys.

The memorial is a plain cenotpah on three stepped base. A Sword of Sacrifice is positioned on front face. Inscriptions engraved on all faces.

174 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War, and 42 in the Second World War.

One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is named on this memorial.


Private Richard George Beddoes. 41623. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Formerly 160604 R F A. Son of George and Mary Beddoes, of "The Woodlands," Little Stretton, Salop; husband of Wilhelmina Caroline Beddoes, of 3, The Crescent, Newtown, Mont. Killed 14 August 1917. Aged 37.
Born Church Stretton (Shropshire), Enlisted Welshpool, Resided Newtown.
Commemorated on Panel 33, YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL.
