The full title of this War Memorial is "The Newcastle Upon Tyne Postal Area And Northern Engineering District" First World War Memorial. The memorial used to be located in the Central Post Office, St Nicholas Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne. It is currently located in the Mail Centre, Lindisfarne House, Earlsway, Newcastle Upon Tyne.

The memorial is a brass plaque with knot border with gold coloured "GR" in red roundels at its corners, plus two, crossed Union Jack flags with crown in between at top with dedication and 3 columns of delineated names in black, uppercase, incised lettering.

The memorial commemorates 153 names of those who lost their lives in the First World War. A transcription of these names is on the Imperial war Museum's Register of War Memorials.
1 soldier who served in the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the memorial. He was originally a Postman.


Private Thomas Wilson Makepeace, 39082. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of L. M. Makepeace, of 20, Frank St., Sunderland Rd., Gateshead. Killed 9 April 1917.
Born North Shields, Enlisted Gateshead-on-Tyne.
Buried NEUVILLE-VITASSE ROAD CEMETERY.
