The War Memorial for Newark-on-Trent (1)

The War Memorial for Newark-on-Trent is located at Newark Cemetery, London Road, Newark on Trent.
The memorial commemorates 457 names of those who died in the
First World War, 144 names of those who died in the Second World War and 4
names from subsequent conflicts.
The names on the memorial take up both sides of the commemorative stones.
In the photo above, the left hand stone commemorates "S" to ""Y"
from the First World War. The central and right hand stones commemorate those
who died in the Second World War and subsequently.
In the photo below, the left hand stone commemorates names "A" to
"F" from the First World War, and the other two stones names "F"
to "L" and "M" to "S" respectively.
Two soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on the memorial.

Serjeant Walter Foster. 29863. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire
Regiment, formerly 32687 Notts & Derby Regt. Son of George and Ann Foster,
of Caythorpe, Nottingham. Killed 27 May 1918. Aged 27.
Born Claythorpe (Notts), Enlisted Newark, Resided Claythorpe (Lowdham - Notts).
Commemorated on the SOISSONS MEMORIAL.
Private John Harry Gibson, 35441. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Formerly 5/107976 8th T R Battalion. Son of George Gibson, of 18,
Tomlinson Yard. Castle Gate, Newark. Died 25 April 1918. Aged 19.
Born Grimsby (Lincs), Enlisted Grantham, Resided Claypole.
Commemorated on Panel 52 to 54 & 162A, TYNE COT MEMORIAL.
