Inside St. Peter's Church, Monkwearmouth (Sunderland) is a Book of Remembrance for the parishes of St. Peter's and St. Cuthbert's. This Book of Remembrance records the names of 125 parishioners of St. Peter's and 44 names of parishioners of St. Cuthbert's who lost their lives in the First World war.
The Book of Remembrance is housed in a wooden display case. The names of those commemorated in this book have been transcribed on the North East War Memorials Project website.
4 soldiers who served in the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated in the memorial book.
Private John Morton, 16639. 6th Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Killed 29 September 1916.
Born Newcastle, Enlisted Sunderland.
Commemorated on Pier and Face 3A & 3D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.

Regiment. Killed 1 July 1916.
Born Sunderland, Enlisted Sunderland.
Buried FRICOURT BRITISH CEMETERY.
Commemorated on the FRICOURT MEMORIAL.
(The 1911 Census shows that John Newton was married to Mary Elizabeth (plus
4 children) and living at 107 Church Street, Monkwearmouth. He was aged 28
in 1911.)
Private Thomas Henry Renney. 15061. 8th Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Son of Thomas Henry Renney, of 33, Victor St., Monkwearmouth, Sunderland.
Killed 10 July 1916. Aged 27.
Born Sunderland, Enlisted Sunderland, Resided Monkwearmouth.

Private Clement Rose. 15734. 8th Battalion the Yorkshire
Regiment. Son of John George and Mary Rose, of 19, Hamilton St., Monkwearmouth,
Sunderland. Enlisted 13th Oct., 1914. (Exactly 1 year ago, when only 17).
Killed 13 October 1915. Aged 18.
Born Monkwearmouth (Sunderland), Enlisted Sunderland, Resided Monkwearmouth.
Buried DESPLANQUE FARM CEMETERY.
