The Maryport War Memorial is located in the Memorial Gardens, Netherhall Corner, Maryport.

The memorial is a stone cross (without words) in front and a sandstone wall. Inset in the wall are 3 bronze panels commemorating those who lost their lives in the First World war. 276 names are commemorated on these panels.

Beside the wall is a pillar which commemorates those who lost their lives in the Second World War.

2 soldiers of the Yorkshire Regiment are amongst those commemorated.


Private Joseph Cooper. 5565. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Jane Cooper, of 6, The Promenade, Maryport, Cumberland, and the late William Cooper. Killed 11 November 1916. Aged 32.
Enlisted Newcastle, Resided Nether ton (Maryport, Cumberland)
Commemorated on Pier and Face 3A & 3D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.

Private Edward Vaughan, 1230. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 24 May 1915.
Born Maryport (Cumberland), Enlisted Easton, Resided South Bank.
Buried BEDFORD HOUSE CEMETERY.
