The War Memorial for March (Cambs)

The March War Memorial is an obelisk situated on a rough hewn
plinth and square base. On the front face of the memorial stands a figure
of a helmeted soldier resting on arms reversed. A dedicatory inscription is
placed below his feet and names of the dead are inscribed on the sides of
the plinth
212 names are commemorated on the memorial as having lost their lives in the
First World War, and 103 in the Second World War.
3 soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this memorial.

Regiment, formerly 4211 Cambs Regt. Killed on 23 April 1917.

Private Frederick Burrows, 20297. 4th Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Formerly 23176 Cambridgeshire Regt. Killed 27 September 1916.
Born March (Cambs), Enlisted Cambridge, Resided March.
Commemorated on Pier and Face 3A & 3D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
Private Herbert Ernest Moxon. 243288. 5th Battalion
the Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of Rose Clarke (formerly Moxon), of Bedlam
Corner Farm, March, Cambs. Born at March. Killed 19 July 1917. Aged 31.
Enlisted Cambridge, Resided March.
Buried HENINEL COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION.
