The War Memorial in the Methodist Church, Malton is inscribed as follows;-

"With thanks to GOD for those who returned and In ever Grateful Memory of the following Members of this Church,Sunday School, and Congregation, who laid down their lives in THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1919."".

Of the 17 names commemorated on the Memorial, 10 were those of soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.


Corporal Maurice Anderson. 32843. 67th Coy Machine Gun Corps, formerly 2575 Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 7 August 1917.
Born Norton (Malton - Yorks), Enlisted Malton, Resided Rillington.
Buried SARIGOL MILITARY CEMETERY, KRISTON.

2nd Lieutenant Raymond Galtry. 1st/2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, attached to 6th Battalion. Killed 9 October 1917.
Commemorated Panel 52 to 54 and 162A, TYNE COT MEMORIAL.

Serjeant Harold Gibson. 240265 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of Annie Gibson, of View Terrace, Middlecave Rd., Malton, Yorks. Killed 25 March 1918. Aged 33.
Born Malton, Enlisted Malton.
Commemorated : Panel 31 and 32, POZIERES MEMORIAL.

Private John Mason. 139796. 50th Bn Machine Gun Corps, formerly 1477 Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Emma and the late John Mason, of Malton, Yorks. Killed 12 April 1918. Aged 25.
Born St. Leonard's (Yorks), Enlisted Malton.
Buried WIMEREUX COMMUNAL CEMETERY.

Private Arthur Hougson Perryman. 28197. 9th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Edward and Elizabeth Perryman; husband of Margaret Blanche Gray (formerly Perryman). Killed 20 September 1917. Aged 30.
Born Manchester, Enlisted Malton (Yorks).
Commemorated Panel 52 to 54 and 162A, TYNE COT MEMORIAL.

Private Alfred Robinson. 2670. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 26 April 1915.
Enlisted Malton.
Commemorated Panel 33, YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL.

Private John Wilson Sedman. 2677. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Mrs A. Sedman. Died 2 June 1917. Aged 20.
Born Malton, Enlisted Malton, Resided Malton.
Commemorated on the BROOKWOOD 1914 - 1918 MEMORIAL and buried in NEW MALTON CEMETERY.

Private Archibald Simpson, 2223. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Adopted son of John and Ellen Bedale, of 46, Greengate, Malton. Killed 25 April 1915. Aged 19.
Born Malton, Enlisted Malton.
Commemorated Panel 33, YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL.

Private Richard Mark Stubbs, 24531. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of James Adam Stubbs and Margaret Ann Stubbs, of 13, Wheelgate, Malton, Yorks. Killed 23 July 1916. Aged 22.
Born Malton, Enlisted Malton.
Buried GUILLEMONT ROAD CEMETERY, GUILLEMONT.
(NOte : There was also a Richard Mark Stubbs, 37251, of the 21st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who was born in Malton).

Private Frank Ware, 204024. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Thomas Ware, of 2, Middlecave Rd., Malton. Died at home 30 November 1917. Aged 19.
Born Malton, Enlisted Malton.
Buried NEW MALTON CEMETERY.
