The Methodist Church War Memorial, Loftus
(Photo : Edward Nicholl)
Originally this memorial was located in the Newton (Wesleyan
Methodist) Memorial Church in Loftus. This church was damaged by a bomb during
the Second World War, and was declared unsafe for use and was subsequently
demolished. The church's congregation joined that of the Arlington Street
(Primitive Methodist) Church, and the Memorial was transferred for safe keeping
storage under the pulpit of the Arlington Street church.
Subsequently the Memorial was taken into safe keeping by residents of Loftus,
Robin and Mary Bielby. There are now hopes that the Memorial will be transferred
to a museum dedicated to the local history of Loftus.
The Memorial carries the words;-
