A Book of Remembrance in St. Margaret's Church, Leicester City,
commemorates 202 names of those who lost their lives in the First World War.
The Book of Remembrance is in a glass-frinted wooden case with the inscription
in gold "1914 REMEMBER 1918".

Amongst the names commemorated are tose of 4 soldiers who served in the Yorkshire
Regiment.
Private John Thomas Baxter. 30005. 5th Battalion the
Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 39677 Notts & Derby Regt. Killed 27 May 1918.
Born Leicester, Enlisted Leicester.
Commemorated on the SOISSONS MEMORIAL.
(a comprehensive biograhy of John Thomas Baxter is provided on the Leicestershire
War Memorials website. From these biographical details, it asppears that
John Thomas Baxter was the stepson of Edward Camps, and in both the 1901 and
1911 Census's was recorded under the surname of Camps.)
Private George Harry Blockley. 29862. 13th Battalion
the Yorkshire Regiment. Died at home 13 November 1918. Age 27.
Son of Charles and Hannah Mary Blockley, of 36, Burley's Lane, Leicester.
Buried LEICESTER GILROES CEMETERY.
Private George Harry Bockley's Servive Record exists.
From this it is seen that he was unmarried and worked as a Boot Wax Moulder
in the shoe trade.
He enlisted on 26 November 1915 in Leicester, and served in France between
5 June 1916 - 3 May 1917.
He was discharged ion 28 June 1917 as no longer fit for war service due to
muscular atrophy in his right arm and was issued with a SW badge.
Private Josiah Forknall. 41596. 9th Battalion the Yorkshire
Regiment, formerly 32261 10th Hussars. Killed 5 October 1918.
Born Leicester, Enlisted Leicester.
Buried BEAUREVOIR COMMUNAL CEMETERY BRITISH EXTENSION.
Private George Henry Gadd. 29618. 13th Battalion the
Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 30656 Notts & Derby Regt. Son of Edward and
Sarah Ann Gadd, of 57, Craven St., Leicester. Killed 19 June 1916. Aged 21.
Born Leicester, Enlisted Leicester.
Buried LOOS BRITISH CEMETERY.
