A chapel is on the north side of the nave of the Cathedral. There is a wrought metal grille at the entrance. The altar is immediately below the foundation stone of the cathedral, and above this is an octagonal dedication tablet. On the walls are mounted within plaster wreaths 3 circular stones with the names of those who died. The front of the altar is engraved with R.I.P.
An additional two circular stones record the names of 95 past
pupils of St. Anne's School who lost their lives in the First World War.
Amongst the names commemorated on the 3 stones are those of 9 soldiers of
the Yorkshire Regiment.

(Shown on the memorial as "D McGuire". His service record survives
and reveals a very sad occurrence. In July 1916, whilst based at Hartlepool,
he was charged having overstayed his pass, admonished and forfeited pay. His
leave corresponds with the death of his three months old baby daughter; the
reason for his overstaying can be deduced from this family tragedy.)
