The War Memorial for Howden-le-Wear is situated on the East side of the High Street, close to the junction with Bridge Street.

The memorial is a granite obelisk on a square freestone base and two shallow steps.
Three sides are plain. It is surrounded by five short stone columns joined by iron bars. The front of the obelisk is carved with a sword, a rifle and a wreath in half relief.

The First World War commemorations are carried in two columns on the front face of the pedestal, carrying onto the rise of the top step. The Second World War commemorations are listed in three columns on the risers of both top and bottom steps. The lettering is in sans serif capitals throughout.

33 names are commemorated as havinglost their lives in the First World War, and 9 in the Second World War.
