Horsforth Urban District Council Book of Remembrance

The First World war Memorial in St. Margaret's Church, Horsforth, consists of an Oak board, carved and stepped crenellated. There are 3 columns of names where the commemorations are incised in gilt lettering.

2 soldiers who served in the Yorkshire Regiment, and lost their lives, are commemorated.
Corporal James Walter Roo. 12129. 10th Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Died 25 October 1917.
Born Horsforth (Leeds), Enlisted Leeds, Resided Horsforth.
Commemorated Panel 52 to 54 and 162A, TYNE COT MEMORIAL.
(Two other Roo names are also listed, - H R Roo and R Roo.)
Private William Sanders. 15446. 6th Battalion the Yorkshire
Regiment. Husband of Mrs. Sanders, of 3, Prospect Cottages, Town St., Horsforth,
Leeds. Killed 10 November 1915.
Born Grimstone, Enlisted Leeds, Resided Horsforth.
Buried PORTIANOS MILITARY CEMETERY.
