The lych gate at the entrance pathway to St. Mary's Church, Great Wymondley, commemorates 5 men who lost their lives in the First World War. Inside the lych gate, on a beam under the roof, is carved "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN / MEMORY OF THE MEN WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN / THE WAR 1914-1919." The 5 names are carved in capitals, with the forename and surname.

This memorial was rededicated in July 2014.

One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on this memorial.


Private Arthur Croft. 260053. 7th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of Florence Mabel Pratt (formerly Croft), of 9, Lankester Rd., Royston, Herts. Killed 25 April 1917. Aged 25.
Born Great Wymondley (Herts), Enlisted Hitchin, Resided Stevenage (Herts).
Commemorated on Bay 5, ARRAS MEMORIAL.
