The War Memorial Altar in the Church of St. James and St. Mary Magdalene,
Goldthorpe (Barnsley)

The War Memorial in in the Church of St. James and St. Mary
Magdalene, Goldthorpe, is set within the altar.
A coloured St. george figure is set between two Art Deco Corinthian columns
with pediment columns.
The altar itself has a mosaic lily pattern on the front face.
103 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War, and 52in the Second World War.
2 men who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this memorial.

Private Sidney Else. 48262. 13th Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Formerly TR/5/110554 87th T R Battalion. Son of Fred and Maria Else,
of 26, Barnsley Rd., Goldthorpe, Rotherham. Died 10 April 1918. Aged
18.
Born Whittington (Derbyshire), Enlisted Mexborough, Resided Goldthorpe.
Commemorated on Panel 4, PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL.
Private Harry Robinson. 2050. 5th Battalion the Yorkshire
Regiment. Son of William and Sarah Jane Robinson, of 53, Doncaster Rd., Goldthorpe,
Rotherham, Yorks. Killed 29 April 1915. Aged 24.
Born Eastwood (Notts), Enlisted Scarborough, Resided Goldthorpe (Rotherham).
Buried VLAMERTINGHE NEW MILITARY CEMETERY.
