The organ in the Wardley Primitive Methodist Church carried three plaques which commemorated men from the church who lost their lives in the First World war.
In addition to the organ with the commemorative plaques, the church also housed a memorial to the men from the Wardley who lost their lives in the First World War. (This plaque is labelled "Wardley Colliery" but is dedicated to the men of the church and village.)

The Wardley Primitive Methodist Church was closed in 2007. The plaques and memorial were moved to Wardley Primary School, though the present location of the organ is unknown.

37 names are commemorated on the church organ, and also on the Wardley Colliery Memorial. A transcription of the names commemorated is provided on the North East War Memorials Project website.

One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on both memorials.
