St. Mary's Church, Foxholes, was closed to regular worship in 2011.The building was sold in February 2024: The current whereabouts of the Memorial Plaque is unknown.

The First World War Memorial Plaque is portrait oriented, framed and glazed and is an illuminated Roll of Honour document with a winged sword device in the top left corner and a union flag in the top right corner. The title is in gold coloured ink, the inscription and names in black ink.

14 names are commemorated, of whom 7 returned wounded and 1 who lost his life.

1 soldier who served in the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the memorial as having lost his life.


Private Arthur Sellers, 3460. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Sarah Sellers, of Foxhole, Ganton, Scarborough. Killed 17 September 1916. Aged 22.
Enlisted Scarborough, Resided Ganton.
(Entered as "A Sellars" in SDGW)

Shown on the above memorial as having served in the East Yorkshire Regiment.
In the 1911 Census was a horseman on a farm in Foxholes, Ganton.
