The Fartown and Birkby War Memorial is located in Norman Park in Birkby.
The memorial is a plinth surmounted by a sculpture of a serviceman standing with reversed arms. The dedication is on the front panel, and the commemorations of those who lost their lives in the First World War are on the three panels at the side and rear of the plinth.
242 names are commemorated on the memorial.

Amongst the names commemorated on the memorial are those of five soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.


Corporal Lloyd Beaumont. 11846. 8th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Wright and Lucy Beaumont, of 35, Ruthven View, Harehills Lane, Leeds. Killed 10 January 1917. Aged 24.
Born Huddersfield (Yorks), Enlisted Leeds.
Buried WIMEREUX COMMUNAL CEMETERY.

Corporal George William Jackson Colbridge. 23180. 8th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of John and Elizabeth Colbridge, of 6, Midland St., Hillhouse, Huddersfield. Killed 10 October 1917. Aged 21.
Born Birstall (Leeds), Enlisted Huddersfield.
Buried YPRES RESERVOIR CEMETERY.

Private John Grayson. 28332. 1031st M.T. Coy. Army Service Corps, formerly 25541 13th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 30 December 1917.
Born Huddersfield, Enlisted Huddersfield, Resided Huddersfield.
Commemorated on the CHATBY MEMORIAL.
(Lost at sea when HT "Aragon" was torpedoed and sunk 30 December 1917, entering the port of Alexandria, with the loss of 380 officers and men of the Commonwealth forces.)

Private William Parr. 28339. 7th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 23501 the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs. Clara Parr, of 21, Hillhouse Rd., Fartown, Huddersfield. Killed 9 July 1917. Aged 22.
Born Huddersfield, Enlisted Huddersfield.
(SDGW gives Regtl No as 28339; CWGC register lists him as Private Willie Parr, 8339, 7th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment.)
Buried LEVEL CROSSING CEMETERY, FAMPOUX.

Private William Lodge, 38169. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lodge, of 7, Learoyd St., Leeds Rd., Huddersfield; husband of Hannah Lodge, of 287, Leeds Rd., Huddersfield. Died 10 October 1917. Aged 34.
Born Huddersfield, Enlisted Huddersfield.
