The Roll of Honour for Citizens of Aldershot, Farnborough and Cove

The Rushmoor Roll of Honour (*) is a document produced by the Friends of the Aldershot Military Museum which reciords the names of the citizens of Cove, Farnborough and Aldershot who fell in the First World war,
(*) Rushmoor is the title of the Borough Council covering the above three towns.

Amongst the names commemorated on the Roll of Honourare 2 soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.

One of theses soldiers is also commmeorated on the War Memorial in St. Peter's Church, Farnborough, as well as on the War Memorial in the Knellwood Care Home, Farborough.


Lance Serjeant George Clarke, 9556. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of Sarah Giblett (formerly Clarke), of Blackdown Rest, Deepcut, Farnborough, Hants. Won 2 Cups in 1913 at Aldershot for shooting. Killed 30 October 1914. Aged 24.
Born Northampton, Enlisted Gilford (sic), Resided Farnborough (Hants).
Commemorated on Panel 33, YRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL.

Private William Whittaker. 8471. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 15 June 1915.
Born Cleckheaton, Enlisted Bradford, Resided Farnborough (Hants).
Commemorated on Panel 12, LE TOURET MEMORIAL.

The War Memorial in St. Peter's Church, Farnborough, is described on the Imperial War Museum's Register of War Memorials together with a transcription of the 40 names commemorated.

The War Memorial in the Knellwood Care Home, Farborough, was originally in the Farnborough and Cove War Memorial Hospital. This building became a Maternity Home as well as a Hospital. The hospital then became a Care Home, - the Devereux House Residential Care Home and Day Care Centre, in 1978.
The Care Home continued to operate until December . On closure, in December 2020, staff and residents moved to the Knellwood Care Home, Farnborough.

This building is operated as part of the Farnborough and Cove War Memorial Trust.

The War Memorial that was in the original hospital / Devereux House was transferred to Knellwood Care Home.
The memorial is a Roll of Honour and commemorates 182 names, - 1 of whom was a soldier who served in the Yorkshire Regiment.
