The Dudley War MemorialThe Dudley War Memorial

The War Memorial for Dudley, North Tyneside, is located In the garden of the Doctor's surgery, opposite the church, in Market Street, Dudley.
According to the inscription on the memorial a hospital was originally erected here.
The IWM Register records it as a marble statue on a sandstone plinth.
78 names are commmemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War and 20 in the Second World War.

1 soldier of the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the memorial.


Private Benjamin Kirkup, 17473. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of Mrs. J. Kirkup, of Parley's Buildings, Dudley, Northumberland. Killed 2 April 1917.
Born West Cornforth (Durham), Enlisted Cramlington, Resided Dudley Colliery (Northumberland).
(SDGW gives B J Kirkup as Lance Corporal).
Buried HENINEL COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION.
