Memorial Hospital, Deal and Walmer

The Victoria Memorial Hospital is located on London Road, deal.
In front of the hospital is a Cross dedicated to casulaties of both the First
and Second World Wars.
Inside the hospital are two boards with Rolls of Honour to casualties of the
First World War.
One board commemorates casualties from Deal. The other board commemorates
casualties from Walmer and Walmer Castle.
311 Deal names, 223 Walmer names and 42 Walmer Castle names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War.
Amongst the names commemorated is that of one Officer who served with the Yorkshire Regiment.
2nd Lieutenant Richard Malcolm Matthews. 9th Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Son of John and Jessie Matthews, of Walmer, Deal, Kent. Died 20
September 1917. Aged 38.
Commemorated on Panel 52 to 54 and 162A, TYNE COT MEMORIAL.
