Holy Trinity Church, Darnall (Sheffield), was first consecrated
in 1845 but was demolished in 1975.
In its place, the new Church of Christ was built, with the foundation stone
being laid in November 1978.
There had been a War Memorial in Holy Trinity Church which was
unveiled and dedicated in February 1921.
This memorial was a marble plaque in a carved oak frame.
Unfortunately, when Holy Trinity Church was demolished, the memorial was initially
removed to a "safe place" but subsequently disappeared.
Fortunately, Susan Tanner (who at the time lived in Darnall) was moved to do something about this missing memorial. Essentially Susan, with local help, decided to compile a Book of Remembrance for all those men of Darnall who had lost their lives in the First World War. This book of Remembrance list 253 men of Darnall who died in ther First World War, with details of regiments served in and dates of death..
Copies of the Book of Remembrance are held in the Darnall Library, and enquiries may be made by contacting Susan who now lives in Grimsby. Her email address is <susanktanner@gmail.com>.
