The War Memorial for Burslem (Staffs) is in the grounds of St. John's Community Church (to the West of the Church) off Woodbank Street in Burslem.

72 men from the Branfields area of Burslem who died in the First World War are commemorated on the memorial.

Three soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on the memorial.


Private Joseph Ganner, 8401. 9th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 20 September 1916.
Born Burslem (Staffs), Enlisted Leeds, Resided Burslem (Staffs).
Buried DERNANCOURT CEMETERY EXTENSION.

Private Samuel Hodgkinson, 29547. 13th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 29750 Notts & Derby Regt. Son of Mrs. M A. Hodgkinson, of 16, Lower St., Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. Killed 2 July 1918.
Born Burslem (Staffs), Enlisted Burslem.
Buried TERLINCTHUN BRITISH CEMETERY, WIMILLE.

Lance Corporal Gilbert Kirkham, 46789. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 6/9229 13th T R Battn. Son of H. J. and Annie Kirkham, of 2, Lorne St., Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. Killed 28 March 1918. Aged 19.
Born Burslem, Enlisted Hanley, Resided Burslem.
(An "H Kirkham" is shown on the memorial. It is assumed that this should be "G Kirkham")
