The Brompton Ralph War Memorial is located about 50 yards to the South of the entrance to St. Mary's Church.

The War Memorial is a granite cross on a granite plinth, with a concrete base and surrounded by granite posts linked by metal chains. The monument sits adjacent to the church yard on the main road through the village. The principal front faces South. The celtic style cross is square in section with rough-hewn surfaces, and sits atop an irregular shaped plinth.

8 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War. A transcription of the names is on the Imperial war Museum's Register of War Memorials website.

1 soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the memorial.


Private Edgar Whitefield. 47925. 12th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 217015 R E. Son of W. and H. Whitefield, of Pitsford Hill, Wiveliscombe; husband of Ellen Whitefield, of Pitsford Hill. Killed 15 April 1918. Aged 29.
Born Pitsford Hill, Enlisted Taunton.
Buried in LONGUENESSE (ST. OMER) SOUVENIR CEMETERY.
