The Briefield War Memorial is a stone cenotaph comprising tapering column atop a raised stone base with step access. A stone wreath and inscription plaque adorn the upper front face of the column. The column is buttressed with stone in a classical style at the base of each side fronted by a stone plinth upon which rests a bronze lion.
The three faces of this plinth are inscribed with the names of those commemorated from the First World War.
The names of those commemorated from the Second World War are inscribed on the rear face of the column.
Stone flower pots are placed in the concave corners of the base. The memorial is located in front of the Town Hall and Library.

204 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War.

1 soldier who served in the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on this memorial.


Private James Shutt. 351346. 1st/7th Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, formerly 9681 2nd/4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Shutt, of Brierfield; husband of Mary Ellen Shutt, of 8, Hope St., Brierfield, Lancs. Killed 24 July 1918. Aged 31.
Born Padiham (Lancs), Enlisted Nelson (Lancs), Resided Burnley (Lancs).
Buried MARFAUX BRITISH CEMETERY.
